Small-Business Optimism Plunges

The Small Business Optimism Index hit a near all-time low in December 2008, dropping 2.6 points to a reading of 85.2. “Owners were hoping consumers would ride to the rescue, but that did not happen,” said NFIB Chief Economist William Dunkelberg. “Unless there is a solid turnaround in January, we are in for a longer-than-usual recession.”
