Consumer Confidence Takes Nosedive

After a small improvement in September, the Consumer Confidence Index fell dramatically to an all-time low reading of 38.0 in October. The decline of nearly 22 points is the third largest in the index’s history. “The impact of the financial crisis over the last several weeks has clearly taken a toll on consumers’ confidence,” said Lynn Franco, director of The Conference Board Consumer Research Center.
